Meet my osteopathic treatment - Interview with Dr. Federico Coradeschi

March 26, 2024

We asked Dr. Federico Coradeschi, Fanfani's Osteopath and Kinesiologist, to introduce us to his personal working method.

What are the main benefits of osteopathic treatment?

Osteopathy rebalances vital functions and acts with curative but primarily preventive purpose. With an osteopathic evaluation, accurate history and differential diagnosis, it is possible to identify the clinical signs of somatic dysfunction, frame the issues and design a quality treatment plan to resolve the patient's ailments and help him or her regain physiological balance.

How is it different from traditional therapy?

In osteopathy there is a total view of the human body and person, so it seeks to understand how an organic-visceral functional problem can cause musculoskeletal pain and problems. Osteopathy, because of the principles on which it is based, intervenes on people of all ages, from newborns to the elderly, from athletes to pregnant women. In summary, these are the three osteopathic principles that I consider fundamental in my work:

  • body is united, I evaluate the human being as a whole, as a system;
  • structure and function are related to each other, the balance of each function is based by a structure that regulates it; the consequence of the altered balance is the patient's dysfunction;
  • the body has the capacity for self-regulation and self-healing; the person is regulated by homeostatic principles that govern an internal balance.

How is an osteopathic path composed?

In the first visit, I conduct a thorough osteopathic assessment, history taking, observation, perceptual palpation, and targeted osteopathic testing to understand the patient's issues and identify the presence of clinical signs of somatic dysfunction. The goal is to identify the patient's issue, plan a treatment plan with osteopathic manual treatments, prescribe personalized exercises to carry out careful motor reeducation with the aim of rebalancing vital functions and act with curative but also preventive purpose.

Following the initial assessment, I plan a therapeutic and rehabilitative course of treatment. Based on the clinical case and the postural and osteopathic assessment performed, I perform a personalized and targeted osteopathic session aimed at recovering the patient's vital functions. The treatment uses manual techniques; osteopathic techniques are directed on both soft tissues such as muscles and fascia and joint structures. At the end of the treatment, I ensure that the mobility relationships between the various anatomical structures have been reharmonized, and I indicate to the patient the treatment plan necessary to achieve maximum results and maintain them over time.

Finally, with functional recovery and rehabilitation, I follow the patient all-around and help them re-athleticize their bodies through targeted motor exercises, building and planning customized work sheets.

The specialization in Kinesiology, what does it bring to your working method?

Kinesiology is the science that studies the movement of the human body; it deals with the study of body mechanics. Through this practice, I teach patients how to re-educate, rehabilitate and re-athleticize their bodies through exercise and motor movement. I prescribe targeted exercises to solve my patients' problems, following them step by step in their rehabilitative and therapeutic journey.
